Description

WHAT IS Mycobacterium tuberculosis ?
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious illness instigated by a bacterium known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. While it typically targets the lungs, it can affect any part of the body.
TB spreads through airborne transmission, such as coughing, sneezing, talking, or singing. If left untreated, TB can lead to severe complications and even prove fatal. Some individuals may carry the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria without displaying symptoms, a condition termed as Latent TB.

WHAT IS TB-PCR ?
TB-PCR is a laboratory test used to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) by detecting the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA in a person’s sputum, blood, or other bodily fluids. The test uses a technique called polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify the DNA from the bacteria present in the sample, making it easier to detect and identify.

Diagnostic tests not only detect the presence of bacterial DNA but also assess the likelihood of a positive response to anti-TB drugs like Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Ethambutol, and Pyrazinamide.
